Clinical Director and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: 

BOBBIE ECKSTEIN, M.A. is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She was one of the founders of Valley Counseling in 1978.  She also is a lifetime-credentialed teacher and has 15 years experience teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District.  Bobbie has over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and parents in the field of Education and Psychology.  She is currently the clinical and executive director and the coordinator of M.F.T. training at Valley Counseling, and has trained over 100 student interns.  In addition to seeing clients, she is known for her "Calm Parenting" classes and seminars.  Bobbie is a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Licensed Staff: 

JULIE BERRY, M.S., M.F.T is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has a Masters degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling. She has been practicing psychotherapy at Valley Counseling since 2006. Julie’s focus is to tailor the therapy process to each individual’s needs by first establishing a trusting and safe environment. The obstacles and cycles that are created and maintained day after day are the windows to see exactly what is fueling and behind the negative outcomes that leave people dissatisfied and cause the action of seeking the support of the therapy process. With insight, Julie can provide therapeutic techniques to aid in each clients unique process and provided opportunities for support, insight, healing and progress. Julie has experience working with adults, couples, adolescence, children and families. Julie is a member of the California Marriage and Family Therapy association.


SANDY NAHAN, Psy. D. has a doctorate in psychology and is a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist.  She is also a certified business and personal coach. Her specialties include life transitions, which often include anxiety and/or depression.  Her approach to therapy is Solution Focused. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Interns: 

LIZIE HAMI, M.A. has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.  She has been a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern at Valley Counseling for over 6 years.  Lizie believes that therapy is an uplifting process wherein the therapist and client join together to work towards achieving specific needs and goals for each client.  She believes that since each person is unique with his/her own set of experiences, each therapeutic relationship must be unique and tailored to the individual.  Therapy is a place where Lizie can offer new ideas, insights, and tools to aid her clients to help themselves.  She may use a variety of techniques ranging from focusing on one’s thought processes to examining one’s past and current relationships, depending on what is needed in counseling.  Lizie has experience working with a wide variety of clients and issues including: children and adolescents, adults, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, or simply need a safe place to think out loud.

MEREDITH ZEALY OSTROW, M.S. is a Marriage and Family Therapist intern and has a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling.  She has worked / volunteered in the field of mental health since 2003 and has been with Valley Counseling since January 2010.  Her specialties include helping individuals and couples work through relationship difficulties.  Effective communication, problem solving, intimacy strengthening, empathy training, humor and reconnection are just some of the areas explored in session.  From working as a nanny in the homes of the Hollywood elite (Steven Spielberg, Richard Nanula – former CFO of Disney) to spending time in ashrams in India, Meredith brings to the therapy session an open heart complemented by an academic background and experiential wisdom.

CHERI WILLIAMS, M.A., has experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, providing mental health services to the older adult population.  Cheri also has several years of experience working with children and families as a Behavioral Therapist.  Cheri’s approach to mental health includes collaboration with clients in setting attainable goals to alleviate suffering and to promote healthy coping skills for life’s challenges.  Cheri’s personal affiliations include Psi Chi, California Marriage and Family Therapy association and The Multi-Cultural Psychology Association.

Associated Staff:
LESLIE RASMUSSEN, MS, Clinical Nutritionist, has been involved in both nutrition and fitness in one way or another for almost her entire life.  After graduating from UCLA and having a successful career as a television writer, Leslie went back to her first love of health and nutrition.  She earned her Master's Degree in Holistic Nutrition and six years ago she opened a private practice.  Since then Leslie has been helping men, women and adolescents live a healthier lifestyle.  She specializes in weight loss, issues with G.I., thyroid, sleep disturbances, balancing mood, and increasing energy levels. Through personalized meal plans, nutritional supplements and intensive individualized support, she helps her clients achieve their goals.  Leslie is a member of The National Association of Nutrition Professionals and The American Association of Nutritional Consultants. ELAINE PERLISS, C.Ht., Clinical Hypnotherapist, has over ten years’ experience assisting her clients in releasing bad habits, achieving success and creating wellbeing in all areas of their lives. Her specialties include helping her clients quit smoking, release fears and anxieties, increase earning potential, lose weight, gain confidence in public speaking and much more. In addition, she’s passionate in assisting those struggling with a loved one’s addiction as well as creating personal growth through Mindful Awareness practices.
